Residential Grade Carpet

Carpet choices for your home such as wool, nylon, blends, naturals, or olefin should be considered when starting your carpeting project.
Commercial Grade Carpet
The carpet with a patterned effect is a good choice for dealing with high traffic areas. The pattern camouflages the footprints that might otherwise be in plain view. DuPont's STAINMASTER, Wear-dated, ANSO, advanced Teflon Repel System has been engineered specifically for the purpose of preventing dirt buildup and spills. We offer a full range of commercial grade carpets to meet any project needs.

Carpet selection is an important process in renovating or constructing a new home. It can be a daunting task so we created this guide to make your decision making process easier. Here are some definitions of the wide selection of materials and variations:
Construction of carpet Most carpeting falls into one of the following types or is a variation of these types.
Cut Pile
Woven loops are cut resulting in single, individual tips, and is also known as plush. This carpet can be used though out the home. This a very popular style used today and you can be found in many colors. This carpet will show foot prints and vacuum marks.
Loop Pile
The surface of the carpet is made of woven loops. Some of these can be loose or very tight. This is the most durable of construction methods and should be used in the high traffic areas that are most frequently used. This capet is also known as Berber, and has become quite popular in recent years due to its elegant appearance. When choosing this style, make sure to select one with tight loops as the ones with larger loops tend to wear quicker and look worn out.
Cut & Loop Pile
These carpets are a combination of cut strands and looped ones. This is a good carpet for hiding dirt and soil and comes in many different styles. This style is often used with tone on tone patterns as well as many other patterns in the market today.
Frieze
One of the newest styles that has quickly become quite popular in new construction. This style is a very tightly twisted tuft and wears very well. It is often used in high traffic areas and provides reduced foot and vacuum marks and also a great choice for kids’ playrooms.
Fibers of Carpet
There are advantages and disadvantages to the different fiber choices you face.
Nylon This is the most common of fibers used in carpet today and is terrific at resisting soil and stains. This fiber cleans very easily and is good for most any room.
Polyester This is a very soft fiber and colors show up particularly well when made of this. It does not stain or fade easily and is less expensive than nylon. This is great for bold color statement and for children’s rooms and play rooms.
Polypropylene (olefin) This carpet fiber is gaining in popularity as it resists stains, fading, and water and is the least expensive of all your fiber choices. This is great for basements, commercial and outdoor selections.
Wool Carpeting made of wool is a luxurious choice and can be the most expensive. It is only mildly resistant to stains and soil, but the best choice for formal living spaces. This is a natural fiber carpet and can be found in environmentally friendly forms.
Sisal and Sea Grass This material is a popular design choice for green homes as well as someone looking for a bold design statement. It is available in many different weaves and styles and can be adapted for wall to wall installations all over the home.
Do all styles come in different fibers? Yes, most all styles do come in many different fibers for consumers to achieve the look they want with the budget they need.
Should I use the same carpet throughout my home? In large home where carpeted areas are separated by other flooring types (ie: two rooms separated by a hall with hard woods) different carpeting may be used as long as each type related to the other if they can be seen when someone stands in the same spot. In smaller homes the same carpet throughout is smart if you plan to sell the home otherwise, do what makes you happy.
Choosing the right color: Light vs Dark
Light Carpet Creates a more spacious appearance, but shows more soil than medium tones.
Medium Carpet Medium to medium-dark tones, multi colors pattern will help hide soils.
Dark Carpet Deep rich tones make a room appear cozier, smaller and more intimate.
Design
Design is just as color an important part in the overall results in a room. There are three different design types: Plain, Small Patterned, Large Patterned (also called heavy or traditional patterned).
Plain
Plain carpets are easily matched with all types of furnishings, both modern and traditional. It is perfect for bigger areas because there is no pattern to be followed, making it more economical for these areas. In combination with the color, patterns can make the room look bigger or smaller.
Small Patterned
Small patterned carpets are a great step between plain and large patterned and they come in the more traditional style designs. While they have a pattern, they keep many benefits that a plain carpet will have, like the optical illusion of making rooms appear larger when combined with a color. It has however, a small benefit that the large patterned carpet has: it can help disguise some of the effects of natural use such as soiling or pile flattening. The patterns on these carpets are easier to match and therefore can save money in rooms where joins are needed.
Large Patterned
Large patterned carpets give a more traditional look. They hide many little spill accidents more then the plain or small patterned carpets and show less effects of use, like flattening and shading. Large patterned carpets can be used to make a very large room feel smaller and more inviting.

I have pets what do you recommend?
When choosing carpet and knowing there are pets in the house as well you will want to stay away from loop pile carpets. These are great for traffic but will not hold up with pets due to their nails. A cut pile carpet would be best and one made from Polypropylene or Polyester is your best choices for stains.
Padding your carpet
A well padded carpet will certainly last longer than a poorly padded one. We suggest a minimum 8lb pad be used on any installation and a moisture resistant one for all basement installations.
